Day 46

It was a bright clear day again. Maybe Australia was like this the whole time we were gone!! We decided to head to the beach first thing so we wouldn’t miss it today. We made our morning trip to the deli and I said goodbye to the fellas in there. They were teasing Andrew that he will soon be a "free man"!! We missed the bus by seconds when we hit the main road. We got on another that went a long way around but we’d have been sitting waiting for 15 minutes anyway. Lots of people were beginning to gather on Glenelg Beach. They were making lots of preparations down there for a New Year’s Eve Celebration. There was a huge beach volleyball competition going on as well. We watched for a good while and then I needed to seek out some shade! We moved to the other side of the pier where the shade of the trees came onto the sand. As the morning passed we’d have to keep moving farther up. We stayed till about 1:00 p.m. and then went up to find something to eat. We had Gyros at a Greek spot and then an ice cream cone. We headed back over to the volleyball competitions and watched center court awhile.

We caught the bus back to Mile End and walked to the house. We packed a little more. Andrew is trying to squeeze anything he doesn’t think he’ll need again in my bags. They are getting full and heavy! We decided to go into town to get something to eat. We decided on Scoozie’s again. We both like Italian. We shared a different salad than yesterday and Andrew had Ravioli and I had brusetta (cheese and tomato with seasonings on toast). It was all delicious. We missed the 7:20 p.m. bus out north so had to catch the one shortly after 8:00 p.m. We were a little late getting to Chris’s house. Chris is the schoolteacher we visited in November. They have a neighborhood New Year’s Eve Party every year and we crashed it to say goodbye. One lady there that has taught with Chris is going up to teach in the Pitjantjatjara lands in February when the new term starts (remember it’s summer there right now). Chris also had a friend there from Pennsylvania that she had met at an art conference. She will be staying a month. Alan got to show us the finished project on their remodeling job. We enjoyed our visit and getting to know Alan and Chris while we were here. We hope they will come visit us when they are in the states. We had to leave about 10:15 p.m. to catch the last bus back into town. We walked around and observed the crowds and decided to go on home for our own private welcoming of the New Year.
