Recycling

Today we save all sorts of trash
Recycling cans and glass.
We save a lot of other stuff
We've thrown out in the past.
There's much we don't recycle yet
Which I think is plain dumb.
So here's my list of twenty ways
To reuse chewing gum.

You can use it with a slingshot,
It's a toy your dog can chew.
On a present use it 'stead of tape,
Fix pencils broke in two.
Use it as protection from
The claws found on your cat.
It's great for getting dirt and lint
Off sweaters and off hats.
It fixes up a loose light switch,
And plugs aquariums;
Make frisbees, bracelets, earrings too,
From globs of your used gum.
Use balls of hard dried chewing gum
To throw instead of rocks.
Put some on a broomstick end
To pick up smelly socks.
Make a game from your old chews
Like darts with pen and gum.
Shape and freeze them real hard,
As hockey pucks they're fun.
A trinket for your Christmas tree,
Fix holes in your old pants.
Old gum is even safe to use
When catching little ants.
For a solar system model
Gum's great as "Mercury."
On a map you make in school
It's "Rhode Island" easily.

Yes, there's much we don't recycle yet,
Which I think is plain dumb.
But you are now an expert in
Reusing chewing gum.
