Harry Chapin was a popular singer and songwriter (Cat's in the Cradle) during the 1970s. But he was more than an entertainer. He was a leading advocate for the hungry and co-founded the World Hunger Year, an international organization based in New York City, which seeks solutions to hunger problems.

He was even posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his outstanding humanitarian efforts. A portion of that award was modified to become the logo for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
