Local governments in Great Britain are like local governments everywhere: unwilling to allocate funds to fix the problem. The problem is not going to get fixed.

Only a third of local authority chief executives have earmarked cash for year 2000 date change work, while a similar proportion dismiss reports of the problem as commercially inspired hype. Preliminary findings from the Local Government Users' Association millennium preparedness survey, based on responses from 114 of the UK's 480 local authorities, also reveal that 37% thought lack of finance was hampering remedial work.
