Lists of systems threatened by noncompliant chips include PBX systems. These are vital to business. A June 2 story in INFORMATIONWEEK reports that as much as 25% of installed call-center equipment must be replaced. PVirtually every enterprise is going to be affected in some way. . . . Practically every function on a private branch network phone system is ultimately controlled by the date."

But new systems are not enough. The installation of a new system can affect other systems. "Because of the complex interaction between parts of system components, year 2000 problems may emerge only when the system is tested as a whole."
