Sunday Services Planned for October 1995

Our services are at 10:30am with adult and children's educational programs at 9:00am

Emptiness, October 1st, 1995
I spent nine days at a Buddhist meditation retreat sitting silently doing nothing this past summer. For those who have not had this experience it may sound like self imposed torture. My experience of it was blissful joy. Part of the joy of the experience was being empty. This week is also the high holy days of the Jews who set aside this time for emptying their spirit of the sins of the past year. To begin again anew, we must become empty.

Good Government, October 8, 1995
Jan Winters, Charlotte Counties' Administrator, will speak to us on what people should expect from their Government and their representatives in that Government and how we can effectively relate to it at the County level. Mr. Winters comes highly recommended to us by Sue Dudley for his speaking ability and his vision of what is in short supply today, good government.

Talking Turkey About the Ministry, October 15, 1995
Rev. Josiah Bartlett, Interim in Fort Myers, will speak about his vision of ministry. As former president of Starr King School for the Ministry, as interim in numerous U.U. churches and Fellowships, he has a good understanding of our ministry as well as being a delightful speaker. This will also be Ministry Sunday (Rev. Sam will speak in Fort Myers).

The United Nations, Success or Failure? October 22, 1995
Jim Gander, international consultant for business and government, will speak for our 50th anniversary celebration of the United Nations. He has worked in the area of international economic relations for the last 40 or so years and will have some good insights for us.

Passion and Patience, October 29, 1995
Many are uncomfortable with the emotional dimension of human existence. Our passions often grab hold of us and take us where we later regret we followed. Is it possible to be passionate and still feel good the next morning about what we have done? Or is it wise to patiently wait them out like a storm blowing by, until we regain our rational minds?
